Demonstration of Portable device that can detect fentanyl in street drug by Ottawa
by Chris roussakie
Ontario researches have gathered on thursday may 3th to test a portable device that can detect the presence of deadly fentanyl and deliver the result in seconds. The scientist at the university of ottawa have set up a spectrometer instrument at the injection site with a the Sandy Hill Community Health Center in the nation’s capital which like many canadian sites showing the rising number of overdose deaths by illicit narcotic usage.
Jeff smith  director of spactometry center said this portable device provide a ability to detect fentanyl in the sample of other drugs like heroin less than a 20 second  which will take months to detected with standard lab testing.those spactromes are able to split components of drug by distinguish their molecular weight. According to him on thursday in ottawa “If you can measure every individual component of a sample and get its mass, you can identify what’s in that sample,”
Till now days the researchers create methods for mass spectrome to identify the sample of  five drugs such as fentanyl, carfentanil, cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine.which he added “these list will be expanded and this is our plan to over next months add more drugs to the list that will be presence in users sample. Rob boyd director of sandy hills oasis daid because clients are purchasing unregulated drugs off the street, they have no idea what ingredients they contain so users have a opportunity to checkout and make sure about their drug before using them.
My perspective is canadian government by inventing the device that could rescue 1000 of  life's by preventing overdoses that redicusly growing more and more these days will make a pathway for drug users to make sure about their drug before injection.and hopefully will help lots of drug users to prevent overdoses from using drugs contain fentanyl.which these days extremely effective naloxone could brought back people from overdoses but thats after the event.
